ARPA National Banquet
The National Banquet was held on Friday, September 29 with the meal starting at 7:00 pm at the Chestnut Room of Springhill Suites. The banquet was catered by “The Keg” from right there in Murray Kentucky. In addition, a silent auction was held for the benefit of the ARPA Endowment Fund.
The evening’s festivities started with the presentation of a new award. A beautiful 3 frame wall hanging was presented to the Bill Jackson family and Jackson Farms as the first recipients of the Legacy Award. Jeff Wilkins read about the Legacy Bill Jackson had not only left for his family, but also how he had touched so many lives in the Red Poll Family.
The next award presented was the Service Award to Gail Spegal. Brian Fairchild read the many ways in which Gail has given over 60 years of service to the American Red Poll Association and the Red Poll Breed.
The Promoter of the Year Award was then presented to Mike Reed. Kyle Young read how Mike had helped to get the Southern States Association going and how he had also been visiting with various members in the breed to spark interest once again.
The evening concluded with Bob Carson presenting the Lifetime Achievement Award to John Rager. Bob read of how John had impacted the breed through his own herd as well as what he had accomplished in his years of service to the American Red Poll Association. It was noted that a Hill Top influence can be found in many pedigrees of a Red Poll animal as well as Hill Top’s many awards in carcass areas in addition to the Show Ring.
